For engaged couples seeking a truly spectacular backdrop, Boston offers an unparalleled blend of historic charm and modern sophistication. And when it comes to venues that perfectly encapsulate this spirit, the Hyatt Regency Boston Harbor stands in a league of its own. This magnificent location provides a breathtaking backdrop for any celebration, particularly weddings, where the iconic Boston skyline becomes an integral part of the décor.
Imagine a ceremony perfectly framed by the city’s glittering buildings and towers, or a reception where guests can mingle with unparalleled harbor views. The Hyatt Regency Boston Harbor doesn’t just host events; it elevates them, showcasing the boundless possibilities for creating unforgettable experiences against the stunning panorama of Boston.
To highlight the venue’s incredible potential, we collaborated with the talented teams at Contagious Events, Silver Whisk Bake Shop, and Flou(er) Specialty Events. Together, we staged a beautiful wedding ceremony outdoors and a stunning reception in the Skyline Ballroom, showcasing the venue’s versatility for inspiring moments.

Redefining Romance: An Evening Ceremony Vision

“Romance is often a word that gets thrown around [by clients], and typically when we dive into a deeper discussion of how that translates to design, we often talk about candlelight and mood lighting,” Joe Rogers, Owner of Contagious Events, shared. He aimed to challenge the notion that outdoor ceremonies are exclusively for daylight hours, particularly for those popular fall weddings when the sun sets a little earlier. “I wanted to demonstrate what an evening ceremony could look like,” he explained, opening up a world of possibilities for twilight vows.
The result? A truly captivating ceremony setup where candlelight and fire emerged as the consistent trends throughout. Imagine a processional bathed in the soft, intimate glow of hundreds of candles, with the shimmering city lights of Boston as your spectacular backdrop. It was, without a doubt, an unforgettable scene.

With their signature “quirky and eclectic” touch, the team at Contagious Events brought a fresh perspective to the reception space, reimagining classic elements with an exciting twist. Joe perfectly described the overall aesthetic as “a modern wedding that nods to classic wedding design,” blending timeless elegance with contemporary flair.
For the dining tables, they ingeniously flipped tradition on its head. “Instead of lighting from overhead and flowers on the table, we suspended the flowers and instead had the lighting down the table, where a garland or floral runner would be,” Joe detailed. This innovative approach wasn’t just a design choice; it created a deeply immersive and intimate dining experience for guests—a concept easily adaptable for various upscale events.
The outcome was an opulent, dramatic display that perfectly complemented our Van Gogh linens and place settings, proving that every detail counts in creating a truly bespoke client experience.
The Art of Personalization
When it comes to event design, Joe’s ultimate goal is always about deep personalization. He emphasizes, “I don’t want anyone’s wedding to feel like it was ‘stolen’ from Pinterest or just a carbon copy of something that is going viral in the moment. I want our clients’ wedding guests to walk into a space, take it all in, and have no doubt that every element of the design was curated specifically for them.”
