Clients that Inspire: Designing with Cloud Catering

For our latest collaboration in our Clients that Inspire series, the stars aligned perfectly to bring a diverse group of people, products, and ideas together to create something truly incredible.  Behind the design was Keiko Ellis, Creative Director at NYC-based Cloud Catering and Events. Keiko, a Party Rental Ltd. alumna, drew upon her 15-year experience in high-end event design to bring her unique visions to life with a variety of our products in different styles, textures, patterns, and colors.  The setting? Town Stages, a brand-new, versatile event space located in the heart of Tribeca that combines vintage elements and hi-tech amenities to provide a space for event professionals, entrepreneurs, and artists alike. The final result was two stunning designs — one whimsy-meets-sophistication, one modern-meets-rustic — each featuring details and dimensions that surprise and delight.

Keiko shared her inspiration, the styles on her radar, and her product secrets — check it out!

Could you describe the two looks you designed and the inspiration behind them?

I wanted to create two very different looks with the rectangular and round tables. The first is more of an elegant spring gala type of look. By mixing an opulent pattern like the Morocco Red and Gold tablecloth with the Gramercy Gold Hammered flatware and the unexpected Aubergine State Plate to anchor it, it creates a visually interesting look with lots of depth. Bringing in the Capri Bone chair makes it a bit more modern and creates an eclectic look that can work in any space, from a historic New York City building to a raw loft space.

The second look is very modern and simple, but again, I layered with some surprising elements, such as the neon green runner, malachite pattern, and the Stone Wall Citron pattern. By using a similar color but with different intensity and texture, it creates more dimension and layers. I also introduced the smoke glass and the Sedona flatware to anchor and tighten up the look.

Are there any colors, styles, patterns, or textures that you or your clients have been gravitating toward lately?

I’ve been gravitating toward natural stones and patterns like marble and malachite and dusty grayed out colors. Texture-wise, I like to mix it up and go with the unexpected, like using suede in the warmer months with linen and rattan to create depth.

Collaborating with you has been extra special for us, because you were once a member of our team! What was one of the most important lessons — design-related or otherwise — that you learned from being part of the Party Rental Ltd. family?

It is very helpful for me as a designer to have worked at Party Rental because I am familiar with the vast amount of product that you carry. I was a buyer and designer for new products so I understand how difficult the selection process is for and how you care about the quality and maintaining the product. I appreciate that and never have to worry that something is going to be of inferior quality. It’s a strength for me that I know all the different items, and it helps me put together a unique tablescape.

Do you have a favorite Party Rental Ltd. product or linen?

I love the Capri Chair and Rattan Linen. I also like to use the 12.75” Round Coupe Platter as a charger. A little secret of mine!

What do you like about working with us?

You guys always go above and beyond to collaborate with us and make successful events. We don’t have to worry about anything and we always get your support!

What is your design philosophy?

I focus on the balance of fine design, creating every detail until there is nothing more to add and nothing left to take away. Don’t be afraid to layer and break some rules. Have fun!

A big “Thank you!!” to Keiko, the Cloud team, and the Town Stages team for being such amazing partners on this creative collab!
