Five designs, five occasions, five looks for inspiration set in the beautiful event space at Terrain at Devon Yards. We teamed up with the creative minds behind Terrain Events to create unique looks to inspire, from a picnic-inspired aesthetic that’s perfect for summer nuptials to a versatile, elegant styling that can easily transition into the holidays. After our styled shoot, we caught up with the Terrain team to learn more about their inspiration, how they keep a wedding day cohesive, and what design upgrades make the biggest impact.
Could you describe the new Terrain event space at Devon Yards? What sets it apart as a venue?
Terrain Gardens at Devon Yards is a natural extension of the Terrain aesthetic. It incorporates all of the stylings that you expect from such an aesthetically-driven brand, from the curated garden elements of the outdoor ceremony space to the refined barn details in the reception space. Combining the personalized event coordination with the renowned offerings of the Terrain culinary team and the in-house event stylists, you can have an event that feels truly cohesive from beginning to end.
Could you describe the five looks and the inspiration behind them? What type of client or occasion did you envision for each?
Blush Beauty
We wanted to create an ultra-feminine look that felt updated with a sense of minimalism. The Iridescent Pearl Dinner Plate was the perfect starting point for this look; the White Marble Glass Charger grounded the dinner plate while adding some subtle texture to the tabletop. We created a hand-dyed textile backdrop that was echoed in the place setting drape of our favorite Blush Cotton napkin. The Clear President Chairs add just the right amount of modernity. This would be such a great look for a shower or a birthday party.

Picnic-Inspired Perfection
The Buffalo Check dinner napkin brought a graphic modernity to a look that is summer chic at it’s finest. There is an effortless style to this tabletop that gives it an upscale picnic vibe, while the metallic touches in the chairs, flatware, and chargers keep everything feeling refined. We imagined this look for a beautiful summer wedding.

Crisp & Cool
The crisp feeling of this look was inspired by the classic styling of the Grey & White Pinstripe Napkin and the Campbell Plate. We countered the coolness of these pieces with an asymmetrical lush green treatment and grey + mint candle accessories, and then added aged metal details for the ultimate high-low aesthetic. We love this look for a daytime luncheon or corporate event.

Pop of Greenery
The moodiness of the grey + black place setting is contrasted with a pop of vibrant green in the Kiwi Shantung Dinner Napkin. We echoed the place settings with black taper candles which were surrounded by an aspirational assortment of dried and painted greenery. The Birch President Chair kept the overall feeling light and modern. We thought this look would be perfect for a nighttime reception or party.

Modern & Masculine
The Branch Brooke Print linen is so impactful on its own that we wanted to keep the table styling as simple as possible to allow the tablecloth to be the focal point. We kept the overall look feeling modern + masculine with Matte Grey Aster Plates and Black Church Linen Dinner Napkins, but I love that this linen can be so versatile depending on how you style it. We love this look for a unexpected take on holiday.

Are there any colors, styles, patterns, or textures that you or your clients have been gravitating toward lately?
Neutrals are always a go-to for our clients because they are so classic and anything can be layered with them. While neutrals will always have a place in our hearts, we try to encourage our clients to really plug into their personal aesthetics and incorporate colors and patterns that speak to them.
When planning weddings, the couples and their families often bring a mix of style preferences to the table (literally!). How do you help your clients create a cohesive vision for their big day?
It’s so true, and that’s why we feel that our job extends way beyond just florals. We consider ourselves stylists that can bring all of the elements together in a memorable and impactful way. There are so many details that it can become overwhelming for our clients, so we help them figure out which ones matter.
For clients that want to add some extra personality to an otherwise simple design, which piece(s) of the table setting do you like to upgrade to make the biggest impact?
Napkins are our favorite element of the tabletop; they add a lovely softness to the tablescape and can really bring a palette together. Glassware can also help define a look, whether you are keeping it very streamlined with pieces like the Madison collection or adding textural glam touches like the Regency pieces.
