Preston Bailey is a world-renowned event designer known for his signature ability to completely transform a space through event and floral design. Party Rental Ltd. Business Development Manager Debbie Barnes recently visited Preston’s PB Protégé Workshop — a series where students learn how to create a luxury wedding — to speak with the Protégés about rental trends. Afterward, we caught up with Preston to get his take on design, inspiration, and bringing unforgettable moments to life. Five minutes, five questions with Preston.
How do you take a client’s vision and turn it into a full, 360-degree experience?
We take an idea, dissect it, and then brainstorm as a team to come up with three concepts. From there, something great emerges. Don’t be afraid to experiment!
What design styles or trends do you see on the horizon?
We work with clients that want a different and new point of view, so the trend for us is not following the trend. We use event design to tell a story unique to each client’s vision, whether it’s eclectic, a twist on a classic, something playful. We always strive for balance in our designs, so we may create a modern concept but present it an approachable way.
What designs never go out of style?
“Wow” moments are always in-style! For flowers, peonies, orchids, and roses will always be in-style.
What inspires you?
Lately I’ve been finding inspiration in art installations and fashion.
What is your design philosophy?
We create events and rooms that make people so happy and content that they don’t want to leave by using flowers strategically, curating every design element, and presenting the design in a way that’s both different and unexpected.
